Search for cell-type-specific Expression Profiles

The database contains 615 data points (genome-wide expression profiles for different cell types and/or different time points) for C. elegans and C. briggsae embryos. (see Large et al., 2025)

Expression (TPM)

  • Note: homologs of both species are immediately shown by default, unless expression values are selected. To revert to the original list of genes entered uncheck "Show Homologs" in the display options.
  • Numbers as part of cell type names are embryonic times in minutes. For reference: gastrulation occurs between 100 and 250 min, the 2-fold stage is reached at around 450 min and the 3-fold stage at ~510 min.
  • Expression values are given in transcripts per million (TPM). As a rule of thumb, expression levels higher than 80 TPM can be considered 'observable expresion'.
  • In the expression field to specify a range use >0.5 or <0.5 or 2-10.
  • To compare relative expression levels between cell types specify x-fold difference and cell type for comparison in the following way: >10x ABplpappa means expression in the cell type specified by the value in the pull-down menu is 'more than 10-fold higher than expression in ABplpappa'.
  • Use exact values from the drop-down menu (e.g. ABplpappa) to specify the cell type for comparison.
